What does my child need to bring to class?
Nothing!!! We provide all of the equipment - balls, goals, cones, etc. We do recommend that parents bring a drink and/or light snack for their child to have during the breaks.
What should my child wear?
Typical loose-fitting, outdoor playwear is recommended. T-shirt and shorts are perfectly fine. As the weather gets cooler, sweatshirts, sweatpants, gloves, etc. are appropriate. In addition, shin guards are not required. Each child is given their own soccer ball for the class and the majority of the time they are kicking that ball as opposed to kicking at each other!
What kind of footwear does my child need?
Sneakers are completely acceptable. At this age level, soccer cleats are not recommended or necessary.
Are there breaks during the class?
Yes, typically there are 2-3 break each lasting a few minutes. This gives the kids a chance to get a drink and/or snack.
Do I need to stay with my child during the class?
We highly recommend it. While all of our coaches are specially trained and very experienced with teaching young children, we prefer that parents are present for the entire class.
Can I request that my child be placed in a group with his/her friend or sibling?
Absolutely!! We register all ages (3 1/2 to 6) at every class. On the first day of class, we will break the class into smaller groups by age. At this time your child can remain with his/her friend(s). If there is ever any confusion, just speak to one of the coaches and they will insure that your child is with his/her friend(s).
Isn't this kind of a young age for my child to be introduced to soccer?
Absolutely not. Kiddie Soccer stresses fun, participation, safety and socialization ahead of everything. We do not stress or promote any kind of competitive environment. Our mission is to give pre-school aged children a basic exposure to simple soccer skills in a very fun environment. Everything that is done is based around the child having fun. Our belief is that if it's not fun…..what's the point? Many years from now, our participants will have plenty time to compete in a more competitive environment. At these young ages, the focus should be on fun and fun only.
My child is almost 3 1/2. Can I enroll them for the upcoming season?
Technically, Kiddie Soccer begins at age 3 1/2. If a child is a few months short of 3 1/2, but you think that they are ready, then feel free to enroll them. By "ready", we are not referring to athleticism or coordination. Instead, we are referring to an attention span. Its been our experience that a high percentage of children under the age of 3 1/2 simply don't have a long enough attention span for a 1-hour soccer program, or any program for that matter. It's not like we're a strenuous or complex program. Trust us...we're not!! However, we do want and need the children to listen to their coach and follow very simple instructions. You don't want to pay us money only to see your child participate for 10-15 minutes and then simply sort of lose interest. Please be sure to see our "Policies" page for information about a child's non-participation.
